Bio
Recruited from the Yarraville Juniors, Phil Gibson arrived at Essendon in 1906 and immediately cemented a spot in the defensive rotation. A steady backman who failed to trouble the scorers during his stint, he became a fixture in the Same Olds' lineup, featuring in 14 matches as the club secured a second-place finish on the ladder. Despite establishing himself as a regular contributor in a strong side, Gibson's time at the elite level was surprisingly fleeting, with his VFL career concluding after that solitary season. He remained a unique "one-year regular" in the club's history books until his passing in 1939.
