Bio
Recruited from St Kevin’s College, Phil Wynd was a solid utility who managed 11 senior appearances for Hawthorn between 1965 and 1967. Standing at 183cm, he possessed a rugged frame suited to the physical contests of the era but struggled to command a permanent position in the Hawks' starting lineup during a period of mid-table finishes for the club. Following his departure from the VFL, Wynd carved out a respected career in regional football, notably crossing the Bass Strait to play for Sandy Bay in Tasmania, where he established himself as a tough competitor. He later extended his playing days in country Victoria, signing with Gippsland club Maffra in 1975. The Wynd family link to Hawthorn persisted long after his retirement, with his son Stuart listed by the club in the early 1990s and his grandson Lachlan featuring for the Box Hill Hawks in the VFL.
