Bio
Recruited from the Mildura Imperials, Phillip Bottams emerged as a promising junior talent at Punt Road, playing a key role in Richmond’s 1975 Under-19s premiership victory. A determined, straight-ahead defender with a good turn of speed and an unorthodox kicking style, he battled to secure a permanent place in a Tigers senior lineup stacked with premiership stars during the late 1970s. While his career was often spent on the fringe of selection, Bottams provided a memorable highlight for the Tiger Army by drifting forward to boot the winning goal in a rain-affected clash against arch-rivals Collingwood. After 26 senior games and extensive service in the reserves, he moved to the VFA to represent Williamstown and Camberwell.
