Bio
Recruited from Daylesford in the Ballarat Football League, Ralph Edwards was a mature-age arrival at the Western Oval who earned his opportunity during a bleak period for the Bulldogs. Standing 183cm, he possessed the size to play as a tall utility or defender, making his debut in Round 8 of the 1959 season as Footscray languished near the bottom of the ladder. He played two matches mid-year and was recalled for another pair of games late in the season, but was unable to cement a permanent role in a side that ultimately claimed the wooden spoon. With the club looking to overhaul its list following a last-place finish, Edwards' VFL career was limited to just four senior appearances without a goal before he departed the top level.
