Bio
Recruited from West Perth, Ray Boyanich was a versatile big man who established himself at Richmond after initially failing to break into Hawthorn's senior lineup. Standing 193cm with a formidable leap, he was a natural ruckman who was equally capable as a key defender or forward, a utility value that earned him Richmond's Best First Year Player award in 1970. His career highlight came during the 1972 semi-final replay, where he decisively nullified Carlton legend John Nicholls to help propel the Tigers into the Grand Final. However, following the Tigers' high-scoring loss in that premiership decider, Boyanich moved to the SANFL to play for Woodville, effectively missing out on the club's 1973 and 1974 premierships before returning to Punt Road for a final season in 1976.
