Bio
Recruited from North Reservoir in Fitzroy’s northern metropolitan zone, Ray Brain was a solid utility who filled gaps in the Lions’ lineup during the early 1970s. Standing 183cm, he possessed the size and strength to hold his own as a defender or flanker, often tasked with a stopping role rather than generating attacking drive. Despite his physical readiness, Brain found it difficult to command a permanent place in the senior side, wearing three different guernsey numbers across his three seasons at the Junction Oval. He managed 13 games before departing the VFL scene, though he remained a passionate supporter of the club and its merged successor until his passing in 2019.
