Bio
The son of former Collingwood and Melbourne player Reg Gibb, Ray Gibb was a versatile utility who primarily played as a fullback during his time at Glenferrie Oval. Recruited from Balwyn Amateurs, he overcame a severe hand injury in his debut year to become a regular fixture in the Hawthorn defence throughout 1951. His career took an unusual turn early in the 1952 season when he crossed to Richmond, making a mid-year switch to Punt Road where he added a handful of senior games to his tally. After transferring to VFA club Box Hill in June 1953, Gibb’s football journey was tragically cut short just three months later when he died at the age of 24 following a motorcycle accident.
