Bio
Recruited from Thornton via South Caulfield, Ray Gillett was a wiry defender who played a handful of games for South Melbourne in the late 1930s. Standing 182cm but weighing just 70kg, he was a rangy left-footer who struggled to maintain a consistent spot in the senior side, featuring in five matches during his debut 1937 season. After spending a year out of the lineup, he returned for three final appearances in 1939 but ultimately could not command a permanent place in the Bloods' backline during a transitional period for the club.
