Bio
A rare recruit from New South Wales in an era when the VFL was dominated by Victorians, Ray Houston joined St Kilda from the Eastern Suburbs club in Sydney. Standing 188cm, he was a versatile tall capable of shouldering the ruck load or holding down a key defensive post. His four-season tenure at the Junction Oval coincided with a dismal period for the Saints, who claimed the wooden spoon in three of those years. Houston battled manfully in a besieged backline and provided structural support to a struggling side, ultimately playing 34 games before his top-level career concluded at just 22 years of age.
