Bio
Recruited from Flemington YCW, Ray Martini was a versatile utility and half-back who faced the enviable but difficult task of breaking into Essendon’s powerhouse lineup of the early 1950s. He debuted during the 1950 season but found himself on the fringe of a star-studded squad that dominated the competition, ultimately missing out on senior finals action but playing a key role in the club's Reserves premiership victories in 1950 and 1952. Seeking greater opportunities to play senior football, Martini crossed to Carlton for the 1953 season, where he managed a further seven appearances in the navy blue. Unable to cement a permanent spot at Princes Park, he departed the VFL the following year to continue his career with Williamstown in the VFA.
