Bio
Recruited from Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, Ray Millington was a rare New South Wales import who ventured south to join Fitzroy as a teenager. While he had impressed in the Sydney competition as a high-marking key forward, his 178cm frame saw him recast as a half-forward flanker to suit the VFL standard. He played just two senior games in the 1952 season while living directly across the road from the Brunswick Street Oval, eventually returning home to pursue a career in the police force. Millington’s brief VFL cameo remains significant as the first chapter of a remarkable multi-code career; he subsequently played first-grade rugby union for Randwick and first-grade rugby league for Eastern Suburbs, making him a unique three-sport pioneer.
