Bio
Recruited from McKinnon, Ray Nilsson broke into a formidable Melbourne lineup during the height of the Norm Smith era, making his mark as a versatile half-forward and utility. He enjoyed immediate success at the top level, featuring in the Demons' ruthless 1960 premiership victory over Collingwood in his debut season. While he proved a reliable contributor capable of finding the goals, the intense competition for spots at Melbourne eventually saw him seek opportunities elsewhere. He transferred to South Melbourne in 1964, where he played out the final two seasons of his VFL career, providing experienced cover for the Bloods before retiring with a premiership medallion and over 60 games to his name.
