Bio
Recruited from Hobart in the TANFL, Ray O'Rourke's VFL career was a brief cameo curtailed by unfortunate injury. He broke into the senior side for the opening round of the 1969 season, debuting against Melbourne at Kardinia Park, but his stint at the top level was abruptly halted just a week later when he suffered a serious knee injury against Essendon at Windy Hill. Although he managed to play out the year in the reserves, he could not force his way back into the senior 22 and eventually returned to Tasmania. While his own time in the Hoops was limited to two matches, his connection to the club was revitalised more than 50 years later when his daughter, Bryde O'Rourke, was drafted by Geelong as a father-daughter selection in 2023, officially extending the family's history at the Cattery.
