Bio
Recruited from the Melbourne Teachers College via Landsborough, Ray Potter was a key forward who made an immediate impact upon his arrival at Punt Road, booting two goals on debut in the 1945 season opener against Footscray. Despite this promising start, senior opportunities proved scarce for the 183cm attacker, and he managed just one further VFL appearance two years later while otherwise toiling in the reserves. Potter eventually found his true calling after crossing to the VFA, where he established himself as a prolific spearhead for Preston. His tenure in the Association was defined by a stellar 1948 campaign in which he topped the competition's goalkicking table with 84 majors, becoming the first Preston player to win the award before eventually returning to the country to coach in Stawell.
