Bio
Arriving at Victoria Park from East Brunswick and Northcote, Ray Riddell was a wartime recruit whose senior opportunities were severely curtailed by his duties as a Leading Aircraftman in the RAAF. Consequently, he played just a scatter of games over three seasons, often filling a gap in the side while on leave from military service. His most notable contribution to Magpie folklore came as the 19th man in the bruising 1945 Preliminary Final against Carlton, where he sat alongside coach Jock McHale witnessing one of the fiercest battles of the era. Unable to consolidate a position in the post-war lineup, he departed the VFL at the end of 1946 and later surfaced as the senior coach of VFA club Preston.
