Bio
Recruited from St Pauls Ascot Vale, Ray Ross was a promising local junior who burst onto the scene for Essendon midway through the 1921 season. Stationed on a half-forward flank, he made an immediate impact by booting two goals on debut against Fitzroy at the Brunswick Street Oval. Ross became a regular contributor in the Dons' forward line for the remainder of the year, notably featuring in the club’s historic final match at the East Melbourne Cricket Ground where he kicked a goal in a drawn game against Fitzroy. Despite being named among the best players in that fixture, he was inexplicably omitted for the final round of the season and never played senior VFL football again.
