Bio
Recruited from Greensborough via Northcote High School, Ray Willett was a talented ruck-forward whose VFL career was defined by its brevity and immediate intensity. Standing 189cm, he was thrust into the spotlight during his debut 1960 season, selected at full-forward for the Grand Final against Melbourne in just his sixth league game. While he showed immense promise as a mobile big man who could push forward and hit the scoreboard, his time at Victoria Park was dictated by his teaching career, which forced him to move to country Victoria after the 1961 season. He returned to Collingwood for a brief cameo in 1964—booting six goals against Fitzroy in his comeback match—but soon departed again to become a genuine legend of bush footy, winning a Michelsen Medal with Rochester and three Morrison Medals with Mooroopna in the Goulburn Valley.
