Bio
A product of Collingwoodโs Next Generation Academy, Reef McInnes arrived at the club as an athletic utility with high upside, secured when the Magpies matched a rival bid in the first round of the 2020 National Draft. Blessed with a rare combination of height and explosive speed, he was initially viewed as a potential big-bodied midfielder but primarily settled into a role as a medium-tall forward capable of stretching opposition defences. His career was defined by a persistent battle for selection within a premiership-window squad, often finding himself blocked by established stars and restricted to appearances as the tactical substitute or depth cover. While he flashed potential with his contested marking and goal sense when given opportunities, McInnes struggled to cement a permanent spot in Craig McRaeโs best 22, eventually trailing in defence at VFL level in a bid to reinvent himself as a versatile swingman to salvage his AFL career.
