Bio
Born into a prominent Irish-Catholic family and the son of a Richmond doctor, Reg McGillicuddy was a multi-talented sportsman from Xavier College who excelled in rowing and cricket before joining the University Football Club. Entering the VFL as a first-year medical student in 1911, he was thrust into a struggling "Students" lineup that was finding it increasingly difficult to compete against the league's professional powerhouses. His career consisted of two tough outings, most notably playing in the club's infamous match against Collingwood where they were held to their lowest-ever score of just nine points. McGillicuddy ultimately prioritised his profession over football, later serving with distinction as a Captain in the Australian Army Medical Corps during the Sinai and Palestine campaign before his life was cut short by illness at the age of 30.
