Stats
Bio
Recruited from Prahran in the VFA, Reg Naylor was a seasoned state-league campaigner whose transition to the VFL was significantly delayed by administrative red tape. Although Hawthorn identified him as a priority target upon their admission to the league in 1925, a clearance dispute saw his permit refused, forcing him to remain in the Association for two more seasons. He finally made his debut at Glenferrie Oval in 1927 as a 29-year-old mature-age recruit, brought in to provide experience to a raw list that was still finding its feet in the top tier. Naylor operated as a forward option, managing to hit the scoreboard with three goals in his five senior games before his brief tenure concluded. His short career serves as a reminder of the bitter player retention battles fought between the VFL and VFA during Hawthorn's formative years.
