Bio
Recruited from St Luke's, Reg Sampson broke into the South Melbourne side as a teenager during the club's celebrated 1918 premiership season. Although he made his debut in the opening round, the developing wingman found it difficult to cement a regular spot in the formidable lineup and ultimately missed selection in the Grand Final victory later that year. He managed his most consistent string of senior appearances in 1919, yet largely remained a depth player on the fringes of the squad during a strong era for the club. After four seasons at the Lake Oval, Sampson transferred to the VFA in 1922 to continue his career with Footscray.
