Bio
Rhys Palmer arrived at Fremantle via pick 7 in the 2007 National Draft and produced one of the most productive debut seasons in club history. A tenacious midfielder with elite endurance and a knack for finding the football, he edged out Cyril Rioli to win the 2008 AFL Rising Star award. However, his rapid ascent was derailed by a ruptured ACL the following year, and while he returned to the senior side, he struggled to fully recapture the dominance of his rookie campaign. In a significant move for the expansion competition, Palmer left the Dockers to join Greater Western Sydney as an uncontracted signing ahead of their entry into the AFL, seeking a fresh start and a leadership role among a developing list.
During his time at the Giants, Palmer transitioned from a pure ball-magnet into a hardworking half-forward who could hit the scoreboard, becoming a regular contributor during the club's formative years. He provided valuable experience and a mature body during GWS's difficult early seasons but eventually found himself squeezed out of the best 22 as the team's elite young talent matured. Seeking further opportunities, he was traded to Carlton for a late draft pick ahead of the 2017 season. His time at Princes Park proved brief, managing only a single senior appearance before being delisted, concluding a career defined by a spectacular breakout season and a serviceable second act as a foundation Giant.
