Bio
Richard Ambrose is best remembered not for his brief AFL cameo, but as a decorated titan of state league football across Australia. Originally a highly-rated junior from Shepparton taken by Essendon with pick 21 in the 1990 National Draft, the 191cm key position prospect spent two years stuck in the Bombers' reserves before being bundled into a trade to Sydney ahead of the 1993 season. He managed just three senior appearances and a solitary goal for the wooden-spoon Swans before being delisted, but he refused to let his career fade away. Ambrose reinvented himself as a dominant Centre Half Forward in the SANFL with Port Adelaide, playing in their 1998 premiership, before moving west to Subiaco where he truly cemented his legacy. In the WAFL, he became the first Subiaco forward to win the prestigious Sandover Medal (2000) and retired as a 2004 premiership player, completing a remarkable journey that saw him play elite-level football in four different states.
