Bio
Recruited from the University Blacks in the VAFA, Richard 'Buster' Browne was a tall utility who added key position depth to Hawthorn's list in the mid-to-late 1960s. Standing at 191cm, he was primarily deployed as a ruckman who could drift forward, a trait evidenced by his ability to hit the scoreboard with eight goals in his limited opportunities. After breaking into the senior side in 1966, Browne struggled to cement a regular spot in the starting eighteen, missing the entire 1968 season before returning for a brief cameo in 1969. While he never became a permanent fixture at Glenferrie Oval, he served as a useful backup option for the Hawks during the foundational years that preceded the club's golden era of the 1970s.
