Teams

Recruited from the Spotswood Football Club in Melbourne’s western suburbs, Richard Luke arrived at the Lake Oval after enjoying early success in the local leagues, including a role in Spotswood's 1965 Under-18 premiership side. He broke into the South Melbourne lineup in the late 1960s, a period where the club struggled for consistency on the ladder. Standing 183cm, Luke was a serviceable utility capable of playing on a half-forward flank or filling gaps in the midfield rotation, managing to hit the scoreboard with 16 career goals. He was a regular fixture in the senior side for three seasons before his VFL career concluded at the end of 1970, leaving him as a remembered contributor during a tough era for the Swans.
