Bio
Arriving at Hawthorn in 1981 with a formidable reputation forged in the SANFL, Rick Davies was a marquee mature-age recruit who had already captained Sturt and represented South Australia with distinction. Known affectionately as the "Jumbo Prince," he was a ruckman of immense proportions who surprised opponents with his mobility, elite ball-handling skills, and capacity to serve as a damaging deep forward target. Although his time in the VFL was restricted to a solitary season, he proved his quality by featuring in 20 matches and contributing 37 goals, demonstrating he could match it with the best in Victoria. Ultimately, Davies returned to his home state the following year, leaving his brief stint at Glenferrie Oval as a fascinating cameo in a career primarily defined by his legendary status in South Australian football.
