Bio
Recruited from the Bendigo Pioneers with pick 16 in the 2001 National Draft, Rick Ladson developed into a poised and reliable utility for Hawthorn. Possessing a lethal left boot and excellent decision-making skills, he found his niche primarily across half-back, where he acted as a quarterback for the Hawks, setting up play with precise distribution. His understated but vital contribution was integral to the club's 2008 premiership campaign, a season in which he played 24 games and solidified his standing as a key architect of the team's transition game.
Ladson's leadership qualities were recognised with his appointment as vice-captain in 2011, reflecting the high regard in which he was held by the coaching staff and his peers. Unfortunately, his career was constantly interrupted by injury, specifically chronic knee issues that restricted him to just 15 games over his final three seasons. Unable to shake these physical setbacks, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2011 season, retiring as a premiership player and a highly respected clubman after 125 games in the brown and gold.
