Bio
Recruited from Golden Point in the Ballarat Football League, Rick Sutherland was a towering prospect who arrived at Moorabbin offering significant height to the St Kilda lineup. Standing at an imposing 196cm—genuine "tall timber" for the early 1980s—he was utilised primarily as a ruckman who could drift forward and provide a marking target near goal. He broke into the senior side during the 1981 season, making nine appearances and managing a respectable return of six goals, showing he could impact the scoreboard when resting from ruck duties. Despite his physical assets, Sutherland's time at the elite level was confined to that single season before he departed the VFL scene. He sadly passed away in 2015 at the age of 54.
