Bio
Recruited from Geelong West in the VFA, Ricky Browne arrived at Kardinia Park with a formidable reputation as a prolific, ball-winning centreman. A premiership player and club champion in the Association, he narrowly missed claiming the J.J. Liston Trophy in 1973, finishing just one vote shy of the honour. Browne made a unique entry into VFL ranks in the opening round of 1974, debuting alongside his younger brother Mark against Footscray. While he showed glimpses of his ball-winning ability at the top level, his tenure with the Cats was brief, lasting just two seasons. His departure was historically significant, as he was cleared to WAFL club East Fremantle in 1976 as part of Geelong’s long-running and complex negotiations to secure Western Australian superstar Brian Peake, though Browne eventually returned to Victoria to coach his original side, Geelong West.
