Bio
Recruited from Golden Square in the Bendigo Football League, Ricky Nixon was a journeyman utility who spent a decade on the fringes of VFL/AFL selection. He began his career at Carlton but struggled to break into a star-studded lineup, famously serving as an emergency on numerous occasions during the Blues' dominant early-1980s era without cementing a senior spot. Nixon crossed to St Kilda in 1986 seeking greater opportunity, eventually playing the bulk of his football at Moorabbin as a serviceable half-back flanker who could fill gaps in defence. A contractual dispute with the Saints led to a final brief stint at Hawthorn, though his modest on-field record would ultimately be eclipsed by his later revolutionising of the industry as the game's first high-profile "super agent."
