A mature-age recruit who earned his shot through persistence across multiple state leagues, Steele originally established himself with Casey in the VFL before a strategic move to West Perth in 2025 revitalised his draft prospects. Selected by Collingwood with pick 8 in that year's Mid-Season Rookie Draft, he was immediately identified as a solution for the Magpies' outside run, debuting against Carlton in Round 17 just weeks after arriving at the club. A natural wingman with an elite aerobic capacity and the ability to intercept behind the ball, he collected regular disposals across his five appearances in his debut half-season. Having transitioned rapidly from the WAFL to the MCG, Steele enters 2026 looking to utilise his endurance base to solidify a permanent spot in Collingwood's midfield rotation.
