Recruited from the Reservoir Colts, Robert Bolzon was a diminutive rover who played a handful of games for Fitzroy during the late 1980s. Standing at just 169cm, he was a classic small midfielder who relied on high accumulation and work rate to offset his lack of size. After making his debut in 1987, Bolzon started the 1988 season in blistering form, gathering a career-high 22 disposals against St Kilda at Princes Park in Round 1 to suggest he had established himself at the level. However, he struggled to maintain that consistency in the senior side and departed the club at the end of the year. While his AFL career was brief, Bolzon later proved his quality as a premier state-league footballer with Prahran in the VFA, notably finishing runner-up for the prestigious J.J. Liston Trophy in 1991, falling just one vote short of the league's highest individual honour.
