Stats
Bio
Recruited from Hill End in Gippsland, Robert "Chopper" Handley was an attacking wingman capable of hitting the scoreboard who faced the unenviable task of cracking Hawthorn's golden era lineup. He made an immediate impact in his debut 1985 season, playing 15 games and featuring in the Grand Final loss to Essendon—a significant achievement for a rookie in such a powerful side. However, Handley found consistent senior opportunities limited in subsequent years as the Hawks dominated the competition, often serving as a depth player behind a star-studded midfield brigade. He transferred to St Kilda for the 1989 season in search of regular football but added just four games to his tally, eventually carving out a successful state league career in South Australia with Central District.
