Bio
Recruited from Warragul Industrials in Gippsland, Robert "Bob" Hickman arrived at Punt Road as a promising tall utility capable of holding down key posts or running off a flank. Standing 185cm, he made his debut as an 18-year-old in 1961 and was primarily utilized across the half-back line, though he found it difficult to cement a permanent spot in the senior side, playing just 18 games over four seasons. Seeking greater opportunity, Hickman moved to Tasmania in 1965 to join Latrobe in the North West Football Union (NWFU), a switch that saw his career truly flourish. He became a dominant figure in coastal football, winning back-to-back Wander Medals as the league's best and fairest player in 1966 and 1967, and is remembered today as a three-time premiership player who found his best form on the Apple Isle.
