Bio
Recruited from VFA club Camberwell, Robert Mace initially struggled to cement a regular spot in a formidable Hawthorn lineup, managing just over a dozen games across two seasons. He found greater consistency after crossing to St Kilda, where he served as a serviceable rover and small forward during a lean competitive era for the club in the mid-1980s. Following a brief hiatus from the top level in 1987, Mace was recruited by the newly formed Brisbane Bears to add mature-age experience to their inaugural list. He played 15 games in the Bears' historic first season, featuring primarily as a rotational midfielder before retiring from VFL football.
