Bio
Recruited from the Gippsland Power with pick 29 in the 1994 National Draft, Robert McMahon endured a significant apprenticeship at Fitzroy before earning his opportunity during the club's final, tumultuous weeks in the AFL. A key position prospect, he finally debuted in Round 20 of the 1996 season against Collingwood at the MCG, where he kicked his solitary career goal, and played just one more match before the Lions formally merged with Brisbane. While he was not among the eight players selected to join the Brisbane Lions, McMahon was thrown a lifeline by Hawthorn with pick 84 in the 1996 National Draft. However, he was unable to break into the Hawks' senior lineup, spending the entire 1997 season in the reserves before being delisted, leaving his career as a brief footnote in the final chapter of Fitzroy's history.
