Recruited from University High School, Robert Peterson etched his name into the history books as North Melbourne's youngest-ever debutant, stepping onto the field at just 16 years of age in 1968. A clever rover and forward pocket with a sharp eye for goal, he proved he could match it with seasoned bodies, most notably when he booted a bag of seven goals against Geelong in 1971. He became a fixture in the side during the club's resurgence under Ron Barassi, eventually playing in the 1974 Grand Final loss to Richmond. In a move that left many supporters wondering "what if," Peterson retired immediately after that Grand Final at just 22 years old to pursue a career in medicine, trading a promising football future for a life as a doctor.
