Bio
Recruited from Officer in Melbourne’s south-east, Robert Porter earned his opportunity at Glenferrie Oval during Hawthorn's premiership defence campaign in 1962. A lighter-framed utility standing 177cm, he broke into the senior side for his debut in Round 4 against Fitzroy, filling a role as a depth player in a squad still brimming with premiership talent. Porter managed six appearances scattered throughout the season and booted his solitary VFL goal, but struggled to cement a regular spot in the formidable Hawks lineup. He departed the league at the end of the year, his brief tenure serving as a footnote to the club's golden era of the early 1960s.
