Stats
Bio
Recruited from local side Altona City in Melbourne's western suburbs, Robert Saggers was a medium-sized forward who earned a brief but effective stint at VFL level in the mid-1980s. He initially broke into the senior ranks with the Sydney Swans, making his debut late in the 1985 season where he showed immediate promise by kicking two goals in just two appearances. Despite this encouraging start, he transferred to North Melbourne the following year, hoping to cement a regular spot in a Kangaroos lineup that was undergoing a significant transition. Saggers proved to be a handy avenue to goal for North, booting five majors in his three games for the club, but he struggled to secure a permanent place in the senior 22. He finished his VFL career with a respectable strike rate of seven goals from five matches before drifting out of the league.
