Bio
Recruited from East Launceston, Robert Semmens arrived at Punt Road with a strong junior reputation as a member of the famous undefeated 1977 Tasmanian Schoolboys team. Standing at 173cm, he was a solidly built rover and utility known for his determination and willingness to bore into packs to win the hard ball. After playing in Richmond's 1980 Under-19s premiership, he managed five senior games in 1981 but found it difficult to consistently crack a star-studded midfield rotation featuring names like Kevin Bartlett and Maurice Rioli. Seeking regular senior football, Semmens spent the 1982 season in the SANFL with Norwood before returning to the VFL with the Western Bulldogs. He added seven games over two seasons at the Kennel but remained a depth player, eventually departing the top level to join Williamstown in the VFA.
