Bio
Recruited from Hawthorn City, Robert Teal first caught the eye as a prolific junior, finishing equal second in the 1985 Morrish Medal for the VFL U19s competition. Despite his obvious potential, he spent four seasons stalled in the Hawthorn reserves, unable to force his way into a dominant senior lineup that featured some of the game's greatest forwards during the club's golden era. Seeking an opportunity to play at the highest level, Teal was selected by the Sydney Swans with pick eight in the 1989 Pre-Season Draft. He justified the selection immediately, debuting in Round 3 with 21 disposals and three goals against West Coast, establishing himself as a goal-kicking half-forward capable of finding plenty of the ball. While he played 17 games during a promising 1989 campaign, he added just one more appearance in 1990 before his brief stint at the top level came to an end.
