Bio
Arriving at Richmond with the burden of high expectations, Robert Walker was selected with pick 2 in the 1989 National Draft after impressing with North Hobart. Despite his promise as a highly-rated Tasmanian junior, he struggled to bridge the gap between state league football and the elite level, failing to secure a regular spot in the Tigers' senior lineup over three seasons. After being delisted by Richmond, he was handed a lifeline by Hawthorn in the 1993 Pre-Season Draft but managed just one final appearance in the brown and gold. His brief career is often cited as a reflection of the inexact science of the early draft era, where he was unable to translate his high selection status into a sustained AFL career.
