Bio
Recruited from Romsey after dominating the Riddell League with massive goal tallies, Robert Walters was a towering key forward who flashed brilliance during a brief, injury-interrupted career at Melbourne. Standing 193cm, he was a strong contested mark capable of tearing games apart, most famously booting nine goals in an upset win over Essendon in 1979—including six in the second quarter—just a week after the Demons had suffered a VFL-record 190-point loss to Fitzroy. Despite also kicking a bag of seven against Fitzroy the following year, his momentum was constantly stalled by serious setbacks, including a broken collarbone, cheekbone, and ankle. Unable to stay on the park long enough to cement a permanent spot, Walters left the Demons at the end of 1981 and spent the 1983 season with Collingwood’s reserves, but did not add to his senior game tally.
