Bio
Hailing from Manuka in the Australian Capital Territory, Robert Whatman arrived at Geelong as a versatile utility capable of swinging momentum in the forward half. While his VFL tenure was relatively brief, he etched his name into Kardinia Park folklore with a stunning performance off the bench against Collingwood in Round 20, 1972. Trailing by 31 points at the final change, the Cats introduced Whatman as the 19th man, and he proceeded to spark a frantic revival by booting three final-quarter goals to help steal a solitary-point victory. Despite showing promise as a goal-kicking option, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the starting 18 over three seasons. Following the 1974 season, he departed the VFL to continue his career in the SANFL, joining Port Adelaide where he played for another four years.
