Bio
Recruited from Ardlethan in New South Wales, Rod Coelli was a product of South Melbourne’s prolific Riverina country zone which funnelled talent to the Lakeside Oval throughout the 1970s. The 189cm utility broke into the senior lineup for three games late in the 1975 season but struggled to secure a permanent spot and did not feature at VFL level the following year. After his brief stint with the Swans, Coelli shifted to the VFA where he played 53 games for Sandringham, notably lining up in the Zebras' 1977 Grand Final side. He eventually returned to regional football and cemented his reputation as a premier country footballer, winning the prestigious Morris Medal as the Ovens & Murray League's best and fairest player with Albury in 1981.
