Bio
A towering recruit plucked from University Blacks in the VAFA, Rod Lewis was a 194cm ruckman and forward who provided valuable depth to Fitzroy’s tall timber in the early 1980s. He made an immediate impact at the Junction Oval, often playing as a resting ruckman capable of hitting the scoreboard, evidenced by a respectable goal tally for a big man supporting the likes of Ron Alexander. However, Lewis’s career is perhaps best remembered for a high-profile off-field stoush in 1984 rather than his on-field exploits; after attempting to cross to Richmond, he became the subject of a Supreme Court injunction sought by Fitzroy to enforce his contract, a move that effectively sidelined him for the entire season. He eventually secured a clearance to North Melbourne for the 1985 season, but the interruption to his momentum proved costly, and he added just one final senior game to his tally before exiting the VFL.
