Bio
Recruited from Coburg Amateurs, Rod McFarlane was a distinctive figure at Windy Hill, noted for being a bespectacled full-forward. He broke into the senior lineup in 1971, playing four games and showing potential before a serious knee injury required reconstruction, effectively stalling his VFL momentum. Although he displayed significant resilience by returning to top the VFL Reserves goalkicking table in 1972 with 62 majors, he was unable to force his way back into the senior side. McFarlane eventually transferred to the VFA, where he played for Prahran and Northcote, before returning to his original club, Coburg Amateurs, to coach them to a premiership in the early 1980s.
