Bio
A product of the powerful North Geelong side that dominated local football in the 1950s, Rod West was a diminutive rover who earned a brief trial with the Cats during the 1957 VFL season. Standing just 171cm, West was recruited from the Cats' own backyard after impressing in the Geelong & District Football League, where his original club was in the midst of a remarkable dynasty. He made his senior debut in Round 14 against Collingwood at Victoria Park, but found opportunities scarce in a Geelong midfield that was transitioning between eras. West managed just three senior appearances in the hoops before drifting out of the VFL system, returning to the local leagues where his stature and pace were well-suited to the open grounds of country football.
