Family

Recruited from Ivanhoe, Rodney Evans broke into the Richmond senior side as a teenager in 1963. While he managed just 11 games over two seasons as a defender at Punt Road and was unable to cement a permanent spot in the Tigers' backline, he went on to forge a distinguished career in the VFA. Crossing to Dandenong, Evans developed into a premier defender and a highly respected leader, eventually captaining the Redlegs. His footballing standing was solidified in 1971 when he not only led Dandenong to a premiership victory but also claimed the J.J. Liston Trophy as the Association's best and fairest player.
