Bio
A strongly built defender recruited from the Geelong College, Rodney Robson arrived at Glenferrie Oval with a reputation as a talented all-round school sportsman. Standing 183cm and weighing nearly 90kg, he possessed a physical frame ready-made for the rigours of VFL football, allowing him to compete with the era's robust forwards. He was signed by Hawthorn after impressing in trials and made his senior debut in Round 13, 1966, under coach Peter O'Donohue. Robson managed four games in his first season, primarily operating in the backline where his size was an asset, but he struggled to cement a permanent spot the following year as the legendary John Kennedy Sr returned to coach the club. He added just one more senior appearance in 1967 before parting ways with the Hawks, his brief career serving as a snapshot of the defensive depth trials the club underwent during its rebuilding phase prior to the 1970s golden era.
